Meet the trainer: Sammy Crosson

By now you are sure to have seen Sammy around the gym, and you can always count on her to bring the good vibes. Let’s get to know her a little better!

Why and how did movement become such a big part of of your life?

I played a lot of sport when I was growing up and have always loved how movement makes me feel both physically and mentally. I love pushing myself during a workout and the feeling of accomplishment once it’s finished. I definitely notice how much worse I feel when I neglect movement.

Your favourite thing about the Hiit Squad community?

I think the Hiit Squad community is super welcoming and something I knew I wanted to be a part of from my very first class! I love how supportive everyone is and how I always leave a class feeling better than when I walked in. It’s definitely the best and friendliest gym community I’ve ever been a part of. Sorry but you won’t be getting rid of me any time soon!

What’s your favourite Hiit Squad class?

Hiit locker for sure!

What other practises do you live by that support your mindset and mood?

Making sure that I spend time with people who make me feel my best. I have amazing family & friends who I am very grateful for and spending quality time with them (my dog Freddie included) always fills my cup right up!

What’s your favourite type of music to work out to?

This definitely depends on what type of mood I’m in but it’s often drum and bass…Netsky and Lee Mvtthews get thrashed.

How do you motivate yourself to get moving when you’re low energy?

Being both a shift worker and a bad sleeper I often find myself with low energy. I have to remind myself that exercising will almost always make me feel better, whether that’s getting myself to the gym or just walking Freddie.

What’s your advice to someone brand new to fitness who wants to get started?

Find something that you enjoy and ease yourself in. Try not to come in too hot and please be kind to yourself as you start your fitness journey!

What’s your favourite post-workout snack/meal?

If I’m being completely honest, sometimes it’s a wine and hot chippies… However, Matt would not support this and it is not a recommendation. Otherwise, I’m going through a chicken and roast vege salad obsession at the moment.

What does a typical day in your life look like?

My days are a bit all over the show with my irregular schedule but more often than not they include, in no particular order: lots of coffee, walking Freddie, Hiit Squad, work and an episode of a trash reality tv show if I’m lucky.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?

Both and neither.

Favourite local Christchurch eatery?

Little Poms for brunch. Aikmans for lunch/arvo snacks. 5th Street for dinner.

What’s your go to brunch order?

Anything that includes halloumi and a flat white.

Three things that bring you the most happiness?

Freddie

My friends and whānau

Espresso martinis.
